Business Development Associate (3000-9FG)
At Synthetic Genomics, Inc., we are dedicated to developing and commercializing genomic-driven solutions to address global energy and environmental challenges. We are applying synthetic and natural biological approaches to unlock the potential of microbial and plant resources for the biological production of renewable energy and the creation of solutions that will help mitigate greenhouse gas emissions. We are currently seeking a Business Development Associate to join our fast-growing, dynamic and collaborative team in La Jolla, CA.
Responsibilities:
As the Business Development Associate you will support the implementation of our strategy. You will participate in the execution of SGI's existing biofuels programs and the identification, analysis, development and execution new business opportunities that create value for the company and are aligned with our vision. Key responsibilities include:
Support the management of SGI's existing biofuels programs
- Work in coordination with the scientific staff to develop and coordinate workplans, meet program milestones, facilitate collaboration between teams
- Help ensure that contractual obligations are met in the course of performing R&D work funded by / in collaboration with 3rd Parties
- Track the competitive landscape associated with such existing programs
- Identify and pursue rights to 3rd party technologies that can help advance the programs goals
- Support the development of lifecycle and techno-economic analyses
Support biofuels team in identifying, developing and securing new business opportunities in biofuels and biochemicals
- Analyze biofuels markets, technologies and the competitive landscape (in collaboration with science and IP teams)
- Develop financial analysis & simulations, business plans
- Help structure, analyze, execute and manage deals that create value for the company
- Create and manage project plans and budgets
- Work collaboratively with the scientific team communicating market drivers & needs and providing commercial discipline to research and development efforts
Qualifications:
- Minimum 5 years of experience, preferably in consulting, strategic planning or business development roles in the Energy and/or Biotech industries
- Strong knowledge of the fuels and biofuels industry is essential
- BS and MBA degrees required
- Strong analytical and communication skills
- Solid experience developing financial models and business cases
- Ability to prioritize tasks, work efficiently and maintain discipline in order to meet challenging deadlines
- Ability to gather, evaluate and screen relevant market data, generate insights, identify opportunities and present recommendations in a clear and concise manner
- High degree of personal integrity and strong ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
- Self-motivated, proactive and have a strong performance bias
