In 2009, SGI and ExxonMobil announced an alliance focused on researching and developing naturally occurring and conventionally modified algae strains for use in developing algae-based biofuels. Over the course of the program, the teams have gained significant insights on and understanding of the requirements for overcoming the challenges associated with developing and delivering algae-based biofuels.
